Story

Triangle Accent

The Halo Beriti Washing Station was established in 2014 and serves roughly 750 smallholder farmers who deliver red ripe coffee cherries to the station each harvest cycle. This particular lot was part of a “special preparation” at the washing station where it was continually monitored and hand-sorted throughout the receiving and drying processes to ensure only the very best coffees made it into the final product. This special prep shows gloriously in the cup. It is so crisp and sparkling with tasting notes of jammy pear, meyer lemon, jasmine, raspberry, honey, and lavender. We think this coffee is a beautiful representation of the classic washed Ethiopia profile with a lovely little tangy berry kick.  Traditional growing methods in Ethiopia are devoid of using any fertilizer, pesticides, or fungicides. This coffee is also shade-grown, with farmers inter-cropping their coffees trees with other foods to make the most use of their often very small farms. Inter-cropping improves soil health and is a more sustainable farming option for a number of reasons including being much more bird and environmentally friendly.

Story:

Unparalleled quality, a human story, and sustainability – that’s our coffee philosophy.

Unparalleled quality. We won’t buy a coffee unless we know that it will inspire you.

A human story. Often times a producer’s story gets lost in the coffee supply chain. It’s our focus to provide a seed-to-cup experience, honoring everyone involved

Sustainability. We purchase coffees directly from producers and through brokers who share our goal of making coffee a sustainable commodity. Financially and environmentally, the coffees we purchase seek balance. Premiums paid for quality far exceed fair trade premiums and afford a more sustainable, honest model.

Combine our coffee philosophy and passion for exceptional coffees with our down-home Midwest hospitality and that, in a nutshell, is JBC Coffee Roasters. We can’t wait to share our coffee passion with you.

Very nice, what you would expect from a washed Ethiopian.

Second only to JBC Ulos Batak Sumatra. Short light earthy start, citrus at start and finish, lush, very complex, juicy, smoky barely-sweet satisfying finish, slightest dark aftertaste.

Not as pungent as their other Ethiopian bean, which I cannot remember the name of. But still good. Light. Easy on the palate.
