Story

Triangle Accent

We met Maria Escobar at the 2019 Best of Huehuetenango competition in Guatemala, where her coffee immediately stood apart for its classic Huehuetenango profile of milk chocolate and blackberry. Among more than 100 producer submissions, Maria earned 5th place overall, an exceptional achievement, especially given that her farm is under one hectare.

Her coffee quickly became a favorite of ours, and we committed to working with Maria long term. Each year, we purchase her entire harvest exclusively, paying a quality-based premium well above Fair Trade pricing. Traceability is central to what we do, and this is coffee that deserves to be recognized by name and by producer.

The partnership began with an evening of conversation at the awards ceremony, translated from English to Spanish to Maria’s indigenous language—and has grown into a sustainable, ongoing relationship. With support from Atlas Coffee Importers, we’ve been able to help ensure Maria’s continued success producing exceptional specialty coffee.

This coffee is a perennial favorite with both our team and our customers. It’s layered and expressive, offering real complexity while remaining approachable and easy to drink. This year’s lot showcases the silky texture, vanilla sweetness, and milk chocolate foundation we love, elevated by bright fruit and floral notes.

In the cup, we taste strawberry, cantaloupe, mandarin, watermelon, blackberry, and apple blossom, balanced by vanilla, milk chocolate, and praline, with a smooth, silky finish.

This is the kind of coffee that reminds us why long-term producer relationship.

Story:

Brothers, Rick and Randy Evans, founded Evans Brothers Coffee in the summer of 2009. As passionate skiers, the idea for the company developed over long chairlift rides at Schweitzer Mountain Resort during the winter of 2008 / 2009.

Our approach to coffee roasting is rooted in sourcing exceptional beans with attention to quality, sustainability, and cultivating meaningful relationships with farmers. Our partnerships with farmers, producers, importers & exporters are built on trust, respect, and a shared dedication to quality. These coffees come from the heart of the producers, roasters, & everyone in between.

We value community, connection, and quality in everything we do!
