Story
Born and raised in San Agustin, Didier Anacona has dedicated his life to agriculture. Initially, his focus was on cultivating corn and plantains, the region’s staple crops. However, as time passed, he became disillusioned with the detrimental impact these crops had on the land he cherished. The excessive use of agrochemicals, the high nutrient demands on the soil, and the damage to other natural resources prompted Didier to explore alternative crops and farming methods.
In response, Didier embraced organic farming techniques and transitioned from corn to coffee production. By focusing on coffee cultivation, he was able to reduce his reliance on agrochemicals and preserve the native shade trees that are endemic to the region. These changes also allowed him to establish beekeeping, which not only aids in pollination of his and neighboring farms but also provides a supplemental income through honey production.
Seven years ago, Didier and his wife purchased the land that now bears the name El Porvenir, which translates to “the future.” They chose this name to reflect their aspirations, ambitions, and professional progress. Here, they reside with their two children, and as a family, they collaborate to cultivate coffee. Didier expresses immense pride in his farm and considers the bees his closest companions. These beneficial insects bring life to the land and serve as a valuable teacher in preserving nature.
