16 x 3 oz Medium-Ground Packs of our Bestselling Blend
Our namesake blend features coffees from some of the world's best-known growing regions. This crowd-pleasing blend is rich and smooth, highlighting a deep-toned Lintong coffee from small garden farms in the Lake Toba region of Sumatra, which offers nuances of sweet grapefruit and aromatic wood. This coffee, like most cultivated in Sumatra, is processed using the wet-hull method, contributing to its unique flavor profile. Then, we add a fully washed coffee from Kenya that adds elements of brightness and helps bring out the flavor of other coffees in the blend.
Kenya has one of the best systems for compensating the highest quality lots; registered buyers taste samples weekly and then compete at the auction where the best tasting coffees are rewarded. Because the auction lots are so small, our partners purchase many lots of similar quality and then, through a complex grading process, create the consistency we need for use in the blend. Finally, another fully washed coffee from Colombia rounds out the blend by adding silky hints of nut, milk chocolate, and spice.
Another fully washed coffee from Colombia rounds out the blend by adding silky hints of nut, milk chocolate, and spice. The coffee comes from a cooperative called Cooperandes (or Cooperativa de Los Andes) based in the Antioquia growing region. The coffee is grown by a group of smallholder farmers who live near the town of Jardin. The growers deliver dried parchment to the cooperatively-owned dry mill, where it is evaluated for quality. The co-op then combines the growers' coffees together and sorts them according to our specifications in order to maintain consistency. Together these coffees combine to create a smooth and complex blend that pairs well with milk but also tastes great on its own.
We finish the blend with a natural processed coffee from Brazil’s Cerrado Mineiro growing region. Hot, wet summers and dry winters characterize the region and help to create a mild and sweet flavor profile that brings balance and depth to the blend. Together these coffees combine to create a smooth and complex blend that pairs well with milk but also tastes great on its own.

Roast Magazine's 2010 Roaster of The Year Award Winner!
Equator's commitment to a sustainable, transparent approach spans more than two decades. Today, Equator operates nine cafes predominantly in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2016, the U.S. Small Business Administration honored Equator by naming Equator the "National Small Business of the Year." Since their founding, Equator has been a leader in sustainability and social responsibility. In 2011, they formalized their commitment to sustainability by becoming a certified B Corporation, making it the first California coffee roaster to do so. Equator’s philosophy on coffee is built from a question: how do they create value from their perch in the coffee supply chain, standing at the intersection between local and distant coffee communities? It is this question that continues to frame their narrative as they strive to grow a business that values the stakeholders in both communities with respect for the people, the process, and the product. Equator believes that quality underlies economic and environmental sustainability, and this is the pillar of our approach. They support environmentally sound certifications, as well as practices that produce the highest quality coffee while securing a dignified life for those who produce it.
