Irish coffee

Irish coffee

A warm, classic cocktail that combines hot coffee, Irish whiskey, sugar, and lightly whipped cream. It’s simple, comforting, and perfect for cool evenings or after dinner.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Yield: 1 serving

Ingredients

  • 6 oz hot freshly brewed coffee
  • 1 ½ oz Irish whiskey
  • 1–2 tsp brown sugar (or demerara sugar)
  • Lightly whipped heavy cream

Directions

  1. Warm the glass by rinsing it with hot water.
  2. Add the brown sugar and Irish whiskey to the glass.
  3. Pour in the hot coffee and stir until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Gently float lightly whipped cream on top by pouring it over the back of a spoon.
  5. Do not stir — sip the coffee through the cream.

Pro Tips

  • Use fresh, strong coffee for the best flavor.
  • The cream should be lightly whipped but still pourable.
  • Traditional Irish coffee is served in a clear heatproof glass to show the layers.

☕ Tip: A rich espresso-style coffee or bold medium-dark roast works beautifully for this drink.
