Black Currant Cold Brewalicious Latte

Glass of Black Currant Cold Brewalicious Latte

At discourse, we make every effort to break the "rules" of coffee and tea in new and exciting ways. One of the simplest, yet most transformative, examples of our ruthless rule breaking are brewing coffee with liquids other than water. The concept is so simple and yet took us nearly a year to arrive at: coffee is brewed with water, everybody knows that. But what if it isn't? What if by using a complementary liquid in its place, we can enhance the experience of consuming a coffee? The following recipe was favorite for GoCoffeeGo in the summer, it's simplicity matched only by its deliciousness. Anyone can prepare this recipe with household equipment, just buy the coffee and tea!

  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons granulated instant coffee. We recommend 1000 Faces Voila Instant Coffee or Olympia's Big Truck Instant Coffee!
  • 1/2 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons hot water
  • 8oz glass of cold (or iced) milk or warm milk
  • Please note: This recipe only works with instant coffee or espresso powder.

Directions

  1. To make one drink, combine 2 tablespoons granulated instant coffee, 1/2 tablespoon sugar and 2 tablespoons hot water in a medium bowl. (You can use up to 2 tablespoons sugar for a sweeter drink.)
  2. Whip, by hand or with a mixer.
  3. Continue mixing until the mixture turns from foamy to frothy to creamy.
  4. Spoon the fluffy mixture over milk in a glass filled with ice. (You could also spoon it over warm milk for a hot drink.)
  5. Combine and serve.
