Deep in the heart of Africa, just south of Rwanda lies the tiny landlocked country of Burundi. The same tribal conflicts that affected Rwanda in the last decade, still persist to this day in Burundi. Coffee farming and production is vital to many people in Burundi, a country tied with Congo with the lowest GDP in all of Africa. 90% of Burundi's population relies on farming for their main source of income. The people of Burundi have an amazing spirit, and have fully embraced their raw talent for growing and harvesting coffee. Coffee farming and production has quite literally saved many lives since the 12 year Civil War that ended in 2005. Over the last few years, more effort and investment has been allocated to the cooperatives to improve the quality and consistency being produced. More importantly, an ongoing effort to improve the lives of the small lot farmers in the region is ongoing.
