ry only develops one, oval bean rather than the usual pair of flat-sided beans. As is the case with this coffee, the peaberries were separated during the grading process yielding a uniform size and shape. Although some claim that peaberries produce a better cup than normal beans, we do not find this to be inherently true. From time to time we receive samples of painstakingly sorted peaberries that do not deliver the flavor we hope for. As with any coffee, the proof is always in the cup and this lot continues to blow us away at the cupping table. The town of Lintong Nihota has become synonymous with coffee produced in the area around the southern part of Lake Toba. This coffee has been grown by the indigenous Batak people, a group that has been involved in coffee production since it was brought to this region in the late 1600‘s. Our Tarbarita Peaberry was processed by the wet-hulled method, an unorthodox method of fruit removal and drying that results in the unique flavors Sumatra coffees are know for.
