a, within the revered Tarrazu coffee growing region. Ricardo, a second generation coffee farmer who has been involved in the industry for decades, carries on the tradition by working with his sons Maikol and Diego. In an effort to differentiate his coffee from other coffee produced in the Dota Valley, he broke away from the local cooperative, Coopedota, to establish his own mill. The Calderon family owns a collection of boutique coffee farms that include the diminutive La Bisunga, only two and a half acres in size, where this micro-lot was grown. Although only about three years old, the Calderon family has seen great success with the coffee processed at their mill. The mill is just across the street from the family home where, on the living room wall, a number of awards and articles are displayed. The most notable is the First Place certificate for the 2011 Costa Rica Cup of Excellence competition!
